Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 lb of steak meat, cut into strips
1/3 cup of cornstarch
1/2 tbsp of freshly grated ginger
3 large cloves of garlic, minced
1/4 cup of soy sauce
1/4 cup of water
1/3 cup of brown sugar
1 tsp of red pepper flakes
2 tsp of rice wine vinegar
salt and pepper
oil
1 head of broccoli, cut into small florets
3/4 cup of chopped red onion
2 green onions, sliced
Directions:
Step 1: In a large bowl, place the cut steak and cornstarch. Place a lid on the bowl, or cover tightly with plastic wrap, and shake until the steak is fully covered. Set aside for now.
Step 2: In a small sauce pan over medium heat, add 1 tbsp of oil and let it heat up. Place the grated ginger and minced garlic in the hot oil. Saute for 1 minute, making sure it doesn't burn. Place the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, red pepper flakes and rice wine vinegar in the pot and mix. Bring to a light bowl for 1 minute and then take it off the heat. Season with black pepper. Set aside for later.
Step 3: In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, add 1/4 cup of oil. Let the oil get hot then add your steak. Fry on one side for4-5 minutes, then flip each piece and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Scoop out the beef and place on a plate with paper towel to drain the fat. Set aside.
Step 4: In the same frying pan, over medium heat, add another tbsp of oil and add the red onion. Season with salt and pepper. Saute for 2 minutes then add the broccoli. Mix around and saute for 4-5 minutes. Add the beef back to the pan, as well as the green onions. Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli and cook for another minute.
Serve with rice.
